KANOKA

                       IPOMOEA NIL

Kanoka was grown in our gardens last year in the 2020 growing season. All of the photos above are from our gardens last year. It is a beautiful flower that had extreme color changes and proved extra susceptible to weather and temperature changes.  It was DEEP pink on hot and humid days but as the days grew shorter and colder, the color grew darker and more purple.

This an elegant Morning Glory. It had a small vine, small leaves, and we often wondered if open pollination had created a dwarf of some kind. We can not deny New York had torrid rains and winds last year either. This could have altered the state of its growth. Yet, the flowers grew 2-4 inches and much larger than the leaves. This is a true winner in Morning Glory gardens. Kanoka won us over. The striking appearance was a reward for anyone who woke early enough to see the bloom open. It is a king among its peers.

This plant did not grow to the 8-16 foot as its parent did. It was meager 5 foot but incredibly healthy. It bloomed almost daily and produced healthy seed. We are super excited to see what is produced this year from that seed. The parent seed was purchased from The Jacksonville Morning Glory Vineyard. Kanoka first appeared in their gardens in 2014. They cite "Red Speckled", Ipomoea Nil as the parent plant.
